A note from Dr. Stewart—
Addressing the Announcement from the North Georgia Annual Conference regarding disaffiliations:
There has been a communication emailed and posted by the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church; it can be found by clicking here or at hartfumc.com entitled “North Georgia Conference to Pause Disaffiliation Process.” This statement was released on December 28, 2022.
On November 15, 2022, Hartwell First United Methodist Church approved, through the Administrative Council (Dr. Sam Grizzle, Chairman, and Alan Brown, Lay Leader), a request of our District Superintendent, Dr. Doug Gilreath, to hold a church conference in early 2023 for Hartwell First UMC to hold a vote to consider disaffiliation. This decision came after a lengthy discernment process of our Future Directions Committee.
I ask that you allow us some time to gather information regarding this decision made on behalf of our conference. We will keep you informed as we collect more information on the matter.
