November is National Family Caregivers Month

Join us for an informational series about caring for the aging on Tuesdays, November 5th, 12th, and 19th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at HFUMC.

These three sessions will include guest speakers from the community. Be sure to watch bulletins and emails for more details.

Children’s Activities

Fall Festival – October 16th at the Lake Lot from 6:00-7:00pm.

Games, Crafts, Food, and Fun.

 

Silly Sock Night / Kid Power Presentation – October 23rd.

 

Mason Jars are still available to collect money to help with the Children’s Christmas Project.

We also have blue water cooler jugs on various tables around the church for you to place your spare change into if preferred.

 

Small Groups

Small Groups began this past Sunday at 10am and 11am.

Wednesday Groups start this week at 6pm.

Please remember to sign up for Wednesday Night Supper using the yellow reservation cards or contact the church office by 4pm on Monday if you would like to join us for supper before your small group meeting.

 

Stewardship/Revival Devotional Guide and Event Schedule

If you have not already received your devotional guide as part of the October Newsletter, please be sure to pick up a copy from the church office so you can follow along with our daily devotionals for this month.

There is a 2020 Commitment Card in the middle of your devotional guide.

Please consider your commitment to HFUMC through your Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service, and Witness.

Sunday, October 27th – Worship with Carol Dean Schreiner at the 9, 10, and 11am services with a Chili Cook-off to follow in the Fellowship Hall at 12pm.

Monday, October 28th – Fried Chicken Supper in the Fellowship Hall at 5:15pm with a program by Carol Dean Schreiner to follow in the Sanctuary at 6:30pm.

Tuesday, October 29th – Covered Dish Supper in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30pm with a program by Carol Dean Schreiner to follow in the Sanctuary at 6:30pm.

Wednesday, October 30th – Regular Wednesday Night Supper in the Fellowship Hall at 5:15pm with a Briarwood Brothers Gospel Group Concert in the Sanctuary following at 6:30pm.

Thursday, October 31st – Boo Bash from 6-8pm in the parking lot beside the gym. Games, Bouncy Houses, Rides, Prizes and More! Everyone is Invited!!

 

About our Revival Guest Speaker

Carol Dean Schreiner has presented her inspiring and humorous messages in 37 states, Canada, and cruise ships in various parts of the world, sharing God’s love and encouraging others.

She has led many groups and is especially involved with Senior Adults.

She lives in Oklahoma and is looking forward to being with us October 27th-29th.

About The Briarwood Brothers Quartet

They come from Watkinsville, GA.

Dan Evans, one of the group members, was born and raised in Hart County.

They are a talented group and have just cut their first album in Nashville, TN in August.

You may want to come early to get a good seat.

Help the Children’s Christmas Project by placing Mason Jars in your home to collect loose change!

The children need your help for their Christmas Project by taking a Mason Jar home to collect loose change around your home!

Remember, a little bit of change added here or there over time will add up to more than you think!

Our hope is that this method will be result in more money being collected compared to big amounts donated here or there.

 

Small Groups Reminder

We would like to thank everyone who signed up to be part of a small group.

We believe life is better connected.

You will receive an email this week with your group, leader, and location information.

As a reminder, these groups will begin next week, October 13th, and will continue through the week of November 10th excluding the week of October 27th for Revival.

Each October, the October Newsletter is mailed with important information about our Revival at the end of the month.

There is a Devotional Guide inside the October Newsletter with a devotional for each day.

You will find a Commitment card for 2020 in the center of the book.

We ask that you prayerfully consider your commitment to HFUMC through your Prayers, Presences, Gifts, Service and Witness.

Extra copies of the Newsletter/Devotional Guide are on the tables around the church and in the church office.

Please get a copy to share with others if you didn’t get one already.

The Briarwood Brothers come from Watkinsville, GA and include Frank Shiver, William Kilgore, Micah Kilgore, and Hartwell’s own Dan Evans to perform for us and lead worship.

They cut their first album in Nashville, TN in August.

No admission will be necessary but a love offering will be taken.

 

October 31st 6-8pm – Boo Bash

Join us on Halloween Night from 6-8pm in the church parking lot for food, fun, and more.

We will have rides for the little ones as well as games with prizes.

We will have hotdogs, chips, water, sodas, and other yummy treats available!

Sojourners Activity

This month’s activity will be a field trip to tour the Blue Haven Bee Company with a $7 Chick-fil-A lunch delivered.

Wednesday Night Supper Menus and Programs

Be sure to call the church office by 4pm on Monday or fill out one of the yellow reservation cards found in the pews and the tables around the church to make reservations for supper.

If you have made permanent reservations and cannot attend, please let us know. It is important to have an accurate count for WNS so that enough food can be prepared.

Small Groups

Small Groups will begin the week of October 13th.

You will receive an email about the location and book for your group in the next few days if you have not received an email already.

Confirmation Classes

Confirmation classes will begin on Sunday, October 20th. 

If you have a youth in 7th or 8th grade, or a youth who is older and has not been confirmed, please let Marcie know.

There will be a parent/confirmand meeting on Wednesday, October 9th at 5:30pm in the upstairs room of the gym.

All confirmation details will be covered and pizza will be served.

Children’s Ministry needs Volunteers and Prizes!

If you would like to offer an “extra set of hands” to help in a Sunday School classroom by assisting a teacher, contact JoAnn Stone at the church office or email: joannstoneHFUMC@gmail.com.

If you would like to help out our Wednesday Night Wild program, you may give anything as big or small as you like including bags of candy, sports balls, games, books, gift cards, and more as prizes and awards!

 

Hart County Clothes Closet Food Pantry

It is our custom to bring food items on the first Sunday of each month.

Please bring your food items on Sunday, October 6th and leave them in the baskets at the back of the Sanctuary or the box in the Contemporary Lobby.

Hart Interdenominational Ministry (H.I.M.) ‘Hartwell Helps Expo’

The ‘Hartwell Helps Expo’ will be on Saturday, October 5th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Bell Family YMCA.

The purpose of this event is to help those in the community who are in need of resources and information available through local county agencies and support groups.

If you need a hand or can lend a hand, please come to this fun and free event.

 

Safety Committee Volunteers Needed!

The Safety Committee needs additional volunteers (men and women) who make our church a safe place to worship.

There are currently four teams that serve one week a month.

In order for each team to serve only 6-7 times a year, it is very important that we double our volunteers so that each team will serve only 6-7 times a year.

We ask you to prayerfully consider joining our team. Safety is everyone’s business.

Applications are available in the overflow on the table across from the kitchen and church office.

Trunk or Treat – October 27th at 12:30pm

Families are to line their cars up near the gym parking lot.

The area for Trunk or Treat will be marked off.

There will be a gift card prize for the best-decorated car and costume!

If you are giving cash, place it in an envelope provided in the pews in the Sanctuary or on the table in the gathering area outside the Fellowship Hall.

Wellroot Family Services – It used to be called The United Methodist Children’s Home. It has been renamed to Wellroot Family Services.

UMCOR Disaster Relief – United Methodist supported relief aid for disasters.

 

The Red Cross Blood Drive

The Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, September 24th 2pm-7pm in the Fellowship Hall.

Safe Sanctuary Training – Deadline Approaching Soon!!

Everyone who is working with youth or children is required to take this training.

Please watch the following training video and fill out the quiz attached.

This quiz will be kept on file for two years when training will need to be done again.

Along with this, a background check needs to be completed ASAP for anyone currently volunteering.

The deadline for current volunteers is September 30th, 2019.

You help and willingness to keep our children safe is greatly appreciated!

 

Mason Jars and WNW Prizes Needed!!

Anything big or small can be donated to be used as prizes for Wednesday Night Wild. Anything from bags of candy, sports balls, games, books, gift cards, and more are greatly appreciated!

Mason Jars are needed for the kids to decorate. The kids will hand out the decorated jars to members of the church who will place spare change in them.

We believe a few pennies put in the jar here and there in many homes will add up to more donations than just a few donations here and there.

 

UMW General Meeting Monday, September 23rd in the FH

All women are invited to the next United Methodist Women General Meeting.

The meeting will be a covered dish lunch. Beverages will be provided.

The program will be “Proud of our Past and Excited for our Future”.

 

Small Group Sign-ups

Sign-ups will be available for the whole month of September in the Carter Gathering Area for bible study groups based on the book by Andy Stanley called “Circle Up”.

Learn about how being connected relationally will help you grow spiritually.

Marvelous Moms – You Can Still Help

Although the Marvelous Moms weekend is over, we could still use your help.

It cost $175.00 per child to cover this day which included arts and crafts, entertainment, and special mementos for the mothers and their children.

Donations are needed to help defray the cost.

Simply mark your offering by writing “Marvelous Moms” in the “For” line before placing it in the offering plate.

Sojourners September Activity – Thursday, September 19th

The Sojourners will be going to Cowboys and Angels restaurant in Helen, GA to have lunch with a scenic view of the River in downtown Helen.

This fun adventure will include a trip to Baby Land on the way over.

If you are interested in going, please call Beau Swafford at the church office and leave a message with your name and number by Monday, September 16th.

The bus will leave at 9:30am. Please bring $5 for transportation.

 

Red Cross Blood Drive

The Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, September 24th from 2pm-7pm in the Fellowship Hall.

We are in need of items that can be used as prizes and rewards for Wednesday Night Wild such as bags of candy, sports balls, games, books, gift cards, etc.

Children’s Ministry – Mason Jars Needed

This year, the kids will be decorating as many mason jars as possible.

After decorating the jars, the children will be offering them to members of the church to place in their homes to collect spare change once a month until December.

A lot of spare change from everyone can add up to more donations than a few donations here and there.

We are going to do a church-wide study on the book by Andy Stanley called “Circle Up

If you are looking to start a new small group, this study contains surprisingly simple things you can do to make sure your group experience is a great one.

Registration will be available all of September in the Carter Gathering Area.

 

UMW General Meeting – Monday, September 23rd

The United Methodist Women are having their next general meeting on Monday, September 23rd at 12Noon in the Fellowship Hall.

This meeting will be a covered dish lunch with beverages provided.

The program will be “Proud of our Past and Excited for our Future”.

Men’s Retreat – October 4th-6th

This year’s men’s retreat will be on the theme of Men’s Muster, led by

Dr. Adam Hilderbrandt, Sr. Pastor at Lawrenceville First UMC.

Registration cards are available on the tables around the church.

The last day to sign up is this Thursday, September 12th.

Anyone who is interested in the position of Facilities Director is encouraged to submit a resume and cover letter to Dell in the church office before Sunday, September 15th.

 

Methodist Men’s Boston Butts Sale Ending Soon

Boston Butts are on sale for $35 per ticket.

Please get tickets from the men or the church office by this Wednesday, September 11th.

The Boston Butts can be picked up on Sunday, September 15th, 2019 from 11:30am-12:30pm.
