HFUMC would like to say thank you to Jim Gibson, solo pianist from Atlanta, who entertained us last night. A master of improvisational arrangements, Jim has a repertoire ranging from jazz to Broadway melodies. The audience enjoyed music by Stephen Foster, Irving Berlin and Johnny Mercer(to name just a few) with favorites such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, What a Wonderful World, Swanee River, Phantom of the Opera, Moon River, and Shall We Gather at the River.
Listening to Jim’s beautiful renditions is like drinking cool spring water on a hot summer day, refreshing to the body and spirit. We are fortunate to be part of a church that provides such quality programming.
Come back to see us any time, Jim. We would love to hear you again.
You can check out Jim’s music at www. hickorycovemusic.com.
On April 21st Hartwell First United Methodist Church will present an evening with renowned solo pianist Jim Gibson.
As a professional pianist he has performed at thousand of venues spanning from Atlanta, Georgia to Paris France.
He is considered a master of many different styles from jazz to classical.
Gibson’s music is not “New Age” but is considered relaxing and peaceful. He is often compared to pianists such as George Winston.
If you are looking for a way to “de-stress”, come soothe your soul with Jim Gibson.
I hope you didn’t miss the Celtic Christmas performance. An eclectic mix of holiday songs and Irish folktales. Harry O’Donoghue and Carroll Brown are wonderful entertainers who are masters at Irish folk singing and storytelling. Click on the slideshow below for some scenes from Wednesday night.
On Sunday, May 31 we said good-bye to one of our staff, Linc Wood. Linc has been providing beautiful organ music for over 10 years. Linc has dedicated himself in perfecting his music to the glory of Christ. We were priviledged to have been blessed by his performances.
After marrying, he and wife Charlene have been commuting from Atlanta every Sunday. Linc has now taken a position with Cannon UMC in Snellville, GA. He and Charlene will become members of another church family. We wish them much happiness in their new life. They will always have a place in our hearts.Linc and Charlene, come see us when you come home to visit.
