Men’s Retreat October 4th-6th

All Men are invited to a weekend of fellowship and re-connection with what it means to be Men of God’s Kingdom.

Our retreat will be led by Dr. Adam Hilderbrandt this year with Men’s Muster as its theme.

Registration cards can be found on the tables around the church and must be turned in by September 8th for Early registration and September 12th as the last day to sign up.

 

Methodist Men’s Boston Butt Sale

Tickets are on sale now from the men or the church office for Boston Butts at $35.00 per ticket. 

Boston Butts can be picked up from 11:30am-12:30pm on Sunday, September 15th, 2019.

 

UMW General Meeting

On Monday, September 23rd at 12:00Noon in the Fellowship Hall, there will be a covered dish meal. All women are invited!!

The program will involve a short history of the women that each circle is named for.

Meetings for all four circles will begin back in September.

Sojourners September Meeting

Sojourners are open to anyone over 50 and meet the first Wednesday of the month at 11:30am in the Fellowship Hall.

Please bring a sack lunch. Tea, water, and desserts will be furnished!

Anyone over 50 is invited to join this group for a great time and wonderful fellowship.

The Sojourners also have a special activity each month. Stay tuned for updates on future activities.

Their meetings will resume on Wednesday, September 4th at 11:30am in the FH.

 

Holy Land Tour – 5 Spots Remaining

Plan to join Dr.’s Allen and Tracey Stewart by the Sea of Galilee on their next trip to the Holy Land on Feb. 18-25, 2020.

Level Up Community Outreach B-Ball Program

Our community outreach basketball program resumes Monday, September 9th.

It is open to all boys in the community who are in grades 5th-8th.

Volunteers Needed – Meals and Gatorade

Volunteers are needed to donate Gatorade and/or provide a meal for 15-20.

Gatorades can be brought to the church office during office hours.

Preschool News – Humane Society Drive

During the month of August, we will have a marked bin in the gathering area outside of the Preschool to collect old towels and blankets to be used for pet bedding.

Volunteers Needed – Children’s Ministry

Joann Stone, Children’s Director, is looking for people to serve in the Children’s Ministry.

Positions needed include the Nursery (once every four months), Sunday School, Wednesday Night Wild, Children’s Choir, and Acolytes.

United Methodist Men – Save The Date – Men’s Retreat October 4-6

Dr. Adam Hilderbrandt will be leading the retreat themed, Men’s Muster, this year.

Adam is the Senior Pastor at Lawrenceville First UMC.

Registration cards are available in the church office and on the tables in the gathering areas around the church.

 

New Tuesday  at Bible Study

Lillian Wysong will be leading a new Bible Study on September 3rd based on the book by Shelia Walsh titled, The Shelter of God’s Promises.

This will be a 10 session and video-based study.

Please call Lillian and leave a message to order the study guide ($8.00) by August 25th.

 

Sojourners Meeting in September

The Sojourners will resume their monthly meetings on Wednesday, September 4th at 11:30am in the Fellowship Hall.

The activity will be announced in the September Newsletter.

Sojourners is open to anyone 50 years old and up.

It is a great way to meet people and have fun and great fellowship.

 

Wednesday Night Supper

We have weekly suppers in our Fellowship Hall beginning at 5:15pm followed by a program at 6pm.

The prices have stayed the same:

Adults – $5, MS and HS Students – $3, and Children – $2.

The family limit is $15 with all of the family living in one household.

Please make your reservations by filling out the yellow reservation cards found in the pews or contact the church office by 4pm on Mondays.

You may sign up weekly or turn in one card with permanent reservation marked.

Please let us know if you cannot attend if you have made a reservation as it is important for us to have an accurate count so we don’t prepare too much or not enough.

If you would like to have your meal to go, please let us know when you make the reservation.

Pickups need to be made by 6pm when the kitchen closes.

Safety Team Volunteers Needed

Several more people are needed on the Safety Team in order for each team to serve only once every two months.

This is a great way to meet new people as they visit our church.

Hartwell Interdenominational Ministry (HIM) – “Kaleidoscope” Quilt Drawing

We will be having a drawing for a beautiful handmade “Kaleidoscope” quilt donated by the Quilters from Hart County. As you can see from the picture below, it is destined to become a cherished heirloom. It measures 90″ x 102″.

Tickets are $5 each; 3 for $10; 8 for $20.

The drawing will be at 2pm during the Annual Pre 4th event on June 29th. Tickets are available in the church office from Molly.

 

Play and Silent Auction Thank You

We would like to give a special thanks to the people who helped to make the play and silent auction from this past Sunday a roaring success!

We would also like to thank everyone who attended the play and participated in the silent auction!

With help from all of you, we managed to raise $6,500 that will go to local missions and the upcoming mission trip to Spirit Lake in North Dakota.

 

Walmart Gift Cards Needed

We are collecting Walmart gift cards to present on behalf of our church to the Spirit Lake Ministries to purchase food for their food bank and school supplies for the children.

If you would like to donate a gift card, please bring it to the church office with the amount written on the card.

WOW Service – May 26th at 6pm

We will have a Special Memorial Day Celebration by American Legion Post #109 at 6pm with hotdogs and chips on land at the shelter after at 6:45pm.

Come by boat or by car to the HFUMC Lake Lot at 400 Methodist Park Lane Near Elrod Ferry and POC #3.

We will have WOW services all through June on June 2nd, 9th, 16th, and the 23rd at 6pm at the Lake Lot. More info coming soon!

Vacation Bible School

To register your children and/or to volunteer online, go to www.hartfumc.com/vbs-2019. There are also registration forms in the Gathering Area, Overflow and Office.

We will have VBS on Friday, June 7th from 5:30pm-8:30pm with supper provided, Saturday, June 8th from 10:30am-1:30pm with lunch provided, and Sunday, June 9th from 9am-11am with a Family Hoedown following the 10am service!

Annual Methodist Men’s BBQ

On Sunday, June 2nd, 2019 from 11:30am to 1:30pm, we will have BBQ Plates with pulled pork, baked beans, cole slaw, and dessert available for Dine In or Carry Out.

The deadline for purchasing tickets is May 28th so be sure to buy your tickets from the church office or from the men.

Death Near Dead Man’s Holler – Silent Auction and Play

As you can tell from our Facebook Page, we have quite a few items for our silent auction including hand-carved wooden manger scenes made from olive trees that are centuries old.

These hand-carved manger scenes come all the way from Israel and make an attractive addition to your Christmas decorations and to remember the true meaning of the holiday as a celebration of the birth of the Savior of the world.

We also have other items to bid on including a gift box that includes soap made by Blue Haven Bee Company…

…and a Canon Digital Camera.

The doors will open for the Silent Auction on Sunday, May 19th at 2:00pm.

Tickets are still on sale for the play! They are $10.00 each and can be purchased both at the door before the play at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 19th and at the church office this week.

Vacation Bible School – Registration Available!

This summer, we will have our annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) on

Friday, June 7th from 5:30-8:30pm,

Saturday, June 8th from 10:30am-1:30pm, and

Sunday, June 9th from 9-11am.

This year’s theme will be “Yee Haw – Celebrating God’s Greatest Gift” so mosey on over to the best VBS around!

Holy Land Trip – February 18-25, 2020

Join Dr. Allen Stewart by the Sea of Galilee on this incredible journey through the history of the Bible and walk at the places that Jesus walked in this week-long trip to Israel.

Tour stops include a stop at the Dead Sea to immerse yourself in the mineral rich waters that have incredible rejuvenation abilities as well as a trip to a shop that sells many beauty products made from these unique minerals found in the Dead Sea.

Mother’s Day Offering to benefit Wesley Woods Community

Wesley Woods is a United Methodist supported organization in Atlanta that provides critical funding for Benevolence assistance, Wellness programming, and Pastoral care to older adults living in a Wesley Woods community.

We will be taking an offering this upcoming Sunday, May 12th to help this organization continue to show the love of Christ to others through serving those in need.

If you would like to contribute to this fund, please make your check out to HFUMC and put “Wesley Woods” in the “For” line.

 

Mother’s Day Backdrop This Sunday

We will still have the backdrop up this Sunday, April 12th, for anyone who would like to take special pictures for Mom.

Tickets can be purchased from the Methodist Men or in the church office.

 

Play and Silent Auction

There will be a Comedy Play on Sunday, May 19th at 3:00pm called

Death Near Dead Man’s Holler

with tickets being $10.00 each. They are available to purchase in the Gathering Area after the service and in the church office.

We will also have a Silent Auction with the doors open for people to bid on the auction items at 2:00pm. 

We have been posting pictures of some of the items that will be in our silent auction to our Facebook Page that include hand-carved nativity scenes made from the wood of olive trees by artists in Bethlehem.

All proceeds will benefit Local Missions and the Summer Mission Trip to Spirit Lake.
