Teacher of the Year
South Hart Elementary School has named Joanne Moore as the recepient of their Teacher of the Year Award
Joanne received her specialist degree from UGA and has been teaching for 32 years. She began her career in Habersham Co. After 3 years she located to Hartwell and taught 29 years. Two years ago she retired. Last year she accepted a part time position and this year a full time position as an intervention teacher for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
When asked her perspective about the future role of teachers, Joanne replied:
” Classroom teachers need more input on the state level. Small class sizes are very important when it comes to meeting the needs of children. Working one-on-one or in small groups is the best way to pinpoint specific weaknesses students have in any area. Teachers need to be able to spend more time teaching and less time doing other stuff.”
