The Young Adults spent the week of June 21-28 in Brunswick, GA. Elderly and/or disabled citizens apply to the city for help in repairing their homes. Brunswick receives funding from grants for which the city has applied. The lady who was the recepient of the grant was both elderly and disabled. Major and minor repairs were performed:painting, drywalling, construction,etc.Troy Ayers commented, “I was very impressed with the work ethic of our young adult team as they worked as a unit.”

On Friday, Hartwell First’s YAMs were honored by the mayor and city council of Brunswick for their volunteer efforts by proclaiming June 26 Hartwell First UMC Day and presenting Rev. Ayers with the keys to the city.

In cooperation with the American Legion Auxiliary we are collecting items that are needed by those serving our country. Can you provide 1 or more of the following items?

• stationary
• body wash (no soap bars)
• baby lotion
• baby wipes
• travel size toothpaste
• Off wipes
• SunTan Lotion (SPF 30 or greater)
• Ground Coffee in vacuum sealed bricks
• beef jerky
• peanut butter(small jar)
• Chocolate protein powder
• hard candy to hand out to Iraqi children
• Insulated coffee mugs with lids(plastic or metal)
• gallon size zip lock bags
• disposable razors
• deodorant stick(Degree brand preferred)
• microwave popcorn
• magazines (no nudity–not allowed overseas)
• manicure sets (nail clippers, little scissors, metal file)
• football/volleyball/soccer ball
• digital cameras(donate your old camera)
• birthday cards

You may bring the items to the church office to go in our box or take them to Cut, Curl, and Dye at 41 Maple Street.

HFUMC Sojourners will be on the road to Atlanta’s Chick Fil-A Corporate offices on September 14. Members will enjoy a meal during the tour and will stop by Mayfield Dairy for dessert. If you would like to go, please contact Sybil Clem.
